U.S embassy makes access to visa applicants’ social media accounts mandatory for screening

Category: Visa |

The United States Embassy has issued a directive urging all applicants for F, M, and J category nonimmigrant visas to make their social media profiles publicly accessible.

These visa categories are typically granted for academic study, vocational training, and cultural exchange programmes.

According to the embassy, the measure is intended to strengthen the vetting process by helping authorities verify applicants’ identities and assess their eligibility for entry into the United States under existing immigration laws.
