FG Pays Out N330bn Cash Transfers to Poor Nigerians — Edun
The Federal Government has disbursed ₦330 billion under its conditional cash transfer programme aimed at cushioning the economic hardship faced by vulnerable Nigerians.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, disclosed this on Wednesday, noting that the intervention was part of President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda to alleviate poverty and stimulate inclusive growth.
According to Edun, the cash transfers were targeted at millions of low-income households across the 36 states and the FCT, with beneficiaries receiving direct payments through verified digital channels to minimize leakages.
He explained that the initiative is designed not only to provide immediate relief but also to enhance social protection systems, improve household consumption, and boost local economic activities in rural communities.
The minister added that government remains committed to expanding the programme while rolling out additional social investment schemes, including micro-credit facilities, subsidized health insurance, and agricultural support for smallholder farmers.
Edun further assured Nigerians that transparency and accountability would be strictly upheld in the disbursement process, with regular audits and monitoring mechanisms in place.
Observers say the move could ease pressure on households battling high inflation and food prices, even as analysts warn that sustainable economic reforms are needed to complement such interventions.
