Kogi Youths Rally for Electoral Integrity, Back INEC Chairman Amupitan

Hundreds of youths across Kogi State took to the streets in a peaceful demonstration, calling for credible and transparent elections while expressing strong support for the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu Amupitan.

Carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Fair Elections Start with Leadership” and “Protect Our Votes,” the demonstrators emphasized the need for integrity within Nigeria’s electoral system. The march, which drew participants from various youth groups and civil society organizations, was aimed at reinforcing confidence in INEC’s ability to conduct free, fair, and credible elections.

Speaking during the rally, the youth leaders praised Amupitan’s commitment to electoral reforms and technological advancements, including the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS). They noted that such innovations have improved transparency and reduced electoral fraud in recent elections.

The group also urged political actors to play by the rules and avoid actions that could undermine the democratic process. They stressed that the future of Nigeria depends largely on credible elections and the active participation of young people in governance.

Security agencies monitored the peaceful procession, ensuring law and order throughout the exercise. Analysts say the show of support reflects growing youth engagement in Nigeria’s democratic journey and a demand for accountability in leadership.
