AKURE — The seven farmers who were abducted from their farmlands in Itaogbolu, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, have regained their freedom.

The victims were reportedly seized by gunmen on Saturday while working on their farms. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers stormed the area, forcibly taking the farmers away before vanishing into a nearby forest.

Though details surrounding their release remain sketchy as of press time, sources confirm that all seven captives have been reunited with their families. It is unclear whether any ransom was paid to secure their freedom.

Residents of the Itaogbolu community, while expressing relief, have called on the Ondo State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts in tackling the growing insecurity in rural areas.

The state police command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident or the circumstances leading to the farmers’ release.

This latest abduction adds to the rising spate of kidnappings for ransom in parts of Nigeria, especially targeting rural dwellers and farmers.
