CDS Musa Clarifies Self-Defence Remark, Says Citizens Not Asked to Bear Arms
Speaking through the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Nigerian military has clarified that the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, never called on citizens to carry arms for self-protection.
According to Brig. Gen. Gusau, General Musa was only encouraging Nigerians to embrace globally recognized self-defence techniques such as wrestling, judo, boxing, running, swimming, climbing, and even safe driving as ways of safeguarding themselves in everyday situations.
“The CDS is not asking Nigerians to confront bandits or terrorists with weapons,” Gusau emphasized in an interview with the BBC monitored by Nigeria TV Info in Kaduna.
The clarification comes amid growing public debate over insecurity and how civilians can protect themselves against criminal threats across the country.
