Strike: FG, ASUU in High-Stakes Talks to Avert Nationwide University Shutdown

Detailed News:
The Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have entered crucial negotiations aimed at preventing a fresh nationwide strike. The meeting, held at the Ministry of Education in Abuja, follows weeks of tension over unpaid allowances, university funding, and the implementation of previous agreements.

ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, reiterated the union’s demand for improved welfare, revitalization funds, and autonomy in university administration. He warned that the government’s failure to address the issues could force lecturers back to strike.

Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, assured that the Tinubu-led administration remains committed to resolving the long-standing disputes and stabilizing the university system. The talks are expected to continue this week as both parties seek a compromise to prevent disruptions in the academic calendar.
