Abuja-Kaduna Rail Tracks to Be Restored in 10 Days — Minister
Abuja – The Minister of Transportation, Said Ahmed Alkali, has assured Nigerians that repair works on the damaged portions of the Abuja-Kaduna rail tracks will be completed within the next 10 days.
The assurance follows last Tuesday’s derailment of a Kaduna-bound train at Asham Station, which damaged parts of the tracks and some coaches.
According to reports, the train was carrying 618 people at the time of the incident, including 583 passengers, 15 crew members of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), one medical personnel, eight cleaners, and 11 catering workers.
While no fatalities were recorded, the derailment sparked fresh concerns over the safety of rail transportation in the country.
Minister Alkali reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring safe and reliable rail services, stressing that engineers have already commenced full-scale restoration of the affected track lines.
He urged passengers to remain calm and assured that train services on the Abuja-Kaduna route would resume as soon as possible.
